This document specifies the requirements, basic performance criteria and, where necessary, minimum values applicable to precast hollow-core slabs made of normal-density concrete, either prestressed or reinforced, in accordance with EN 1992-1-1:2004. It covers terminology, tolerances, physical properties, testing, transportation and installation. The units, intended in particular for floors, roofs and walls, are manufactured by extrusion, slipforming or casting. Their joints, which may be enhanced by vertical keying, shall be capable of transmitting horizontal shear in order to ensure diaphragm action. The standard also covers equivalent solid elements. The maximum depth is 500 mm for prestressed elements and 300 mm for reinforced elements; their width is limited to 1,200 mm without transverse reinforcement and 2,400 mm when such reinforcement is provided. A composite topping slab may be used. Applications involving fatigue loading are excluded and, in roofing applications, protection against water ingress is required.
