This standard specifies the characteristics of aggregates, filler aggregates and mixtures of natural, manufactured or recycled materials intended for use in concrete. It applies to aggregates with an oven-dried particle density greater than 2 Mg/m³ (2,000 kg/m³), for all types of concrete, including concrete conforming to EN 206-1, road concrete and precast concrete. Subject to appropriate warnings, it also covers recycled coarse aggregates with a particle density of 1.50 to 2.00 Mg/m³ (1,500 to 2,000 kg/m³) and recycled sands with a particle size of 4 mm. It defines production control and conformity assessment requirements. It excludes fillers used as constituents of cement or fillers not used as inert fillers for concrete. Construction aggregates must comply with its requirements. Mandate M/125 covers recycled aggregates and certain new or less commonly used materials; test methods for recycled aggregates are at an advanced stage of development, while the standardization of secondary materials is only beginning and will need to specify their origin and characteristics.
