The standard specifies the requirements applicable to load-bearing precast concrete staircases intended for indoor or outdoor use, whether made of reinforced or prestressed concrete. It covers materials, manufacturing, performance, test methods, tolerances, physical properties, as well as aspects related to transport, installation, and connections. It distinguishes between two categories: monolithic staircases (precast flights and/or landings) and staircases consisting of individual steps assembled on site. Staircases may be straight or curved, with or without balustrades and landings, and may be supported by different types of bearings or connections. The load-bearing elements may include cast-in-place concrete. However, the geometric characteristics related to the functionality of staircases are not covered by this standard, as they are governed by national regulations or local practice.
