This standard specifies the requirements applicable to factory-made masonry mortars - bedding, jointing and pointing mortars - intended for use in masonry walls, columns and partitions, whether exposed or rendered, load-bearing or non-load-bearing, in buildings and civil engineering works. For fresh mortars, it defines performance requirements relating to workable life, chloride and air content, density, and, for thin-layer mortars only, correction time. For hardened mortars, it specifies, in particular, compressive strength, bond strength and density, as measured using the test methods set out in separate European standards. It also provides for the assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP), as well as marking requirements. It covers the mortars defined in Clause 3, excluding mortars prepared on site, although it may be used, in whole or in part, in conjunction with the codes of practice and national specifications applicable to such mortars.
