This standard specifies the characteristics and performance of powdered gypsum-binder-based products intended for use in building construction. It covers premixed building plasters and gypsum-based plasters applied manually or mechanically to internal walls and ceilings as finishes suitable for decoration, as well as products formulated with additives, admixtures, aggregates or other binders. It also applies to gypsum binders used directly on site or processed into gypsum blocks, plasterboards, fibre-reinforced gypsum boards, fibrous plasterwork and ceiling elements, as well as gypsum mortars for internal non-load-bearing partitions not exposed to water. It excludes calcium sulphate used as a binder for floor screeds. It defines the reference test methods and conformity assessment procedures. Plasters in which gypsum is the principal active binder are covered, whereas those primarily bound with lime fall within the scope of EN 998-1.
