This standard specifies a classification of paint systems and products intended for exterior wood surfaces, according to end use, appearance, and exposure conditions. It defines the components of multi-coat systems, such as the primer coat, undercoat, and topcoat. It covers products that provide decoration and protection for exterior wood, including those containing biological agents for protecting the coating and its surface, as well as bioactive agents intended for in-can protection or protection at the interface with the wood, notably against blue stain. It does not generally apply to wood preservative products, although such products may form part of a covered system. Annex A provides, for information, selection guidelines and procedures.
