This standard defines single-number quantities characterizing the airborne sound insulation of buildings and floors and the impact sound insulation of floors, as well as the rules for determining them from measurements carried out in one-third-octave bands in accordance with ISO 10140-3 and ISO 16283-2, or in octave bands in accordance with ISO 16283-2 for field measurements only. It also defines single-number quantities for the reduction of impact sound by floor coverings and floating floors, calculated in accordance with ISO 10140-3, and specifies a procedure for assessing the weighted reduction of impact sound pressure level achieved by floor coverings on lightweight floors. These quantities indicate the quality of impact sound insulation and facilitate the formulation of acoustic requirements in technical building regulations. An additional assessment in steps of 0.1 dB may be used to express uncertainty, excluding spectrum adaptation terms.
