Due to the use of lightweight and often rigid insulation materials in External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS), the risk of sound leaks at the junction with the external joinery is real. However, detailed knowledge of the acoustic performance of common connection methods is lacking. Therefore, an acoustic measurement campaign was set up in the acoustic laboratory of Buildwise in Belgium to measure the acoustic insulation performance of the junction Rs,Atr (= Rs,w + Ctr) (standardized in ISO 10140-1) for a large number of common connection methods. From this dataset, interesting trends are observed and guidelines for the applicability of the different junction types with respect to the required façade sound insulation are deduced.
