This document specifies the lighting requirements for indoor workplaces in order to ensure the visual comfort and performance of people with normal or corrected vision when carrying out all common visual tasks, including those involving display screen equipment. It defines the requirements for the quantity and quality of illumination and provides recommendations for good practice that address both visual and non-visual needs. It does not address lighting requirements related to occupational safety and health, although its provisions generally satisfy such requirements. It neither prescribes technical solutions nor imposes restrictions on designers and permits the use of daylight, electric lighting, or a combination of both. It does not apply to outdoor workplaces, underground mining operations, or emergency lighting.
